HX Site of the Week
For those of you who don’t live near New York City, Next Magazine was once HX Magazine, NYC’s premier nightlife and entertainment guide for gay guys and gals.
You could imagine my surprise when my friend, Jeff, called me up one morning to congratulate me on my "award." I had no idea what he was talking about, so that night, at my then-favorite bar (Carry Nation in Park Slope, Brooklyn), he grabs an HX to show me — and there it was in black and white.
Okay, now I know it’s a little hard to read, so here’s what it says:
“Check out this awesomely designed personal homepage of a 23-year-old (Editor’s Note: This was 1997. Sigh.) Park Slope cutie who’s on a “never-ending quest for the perfect boyfriend.” With considerable design skills and a fabulously fun sensibility, he shouldn’t have to wait long. D.J. Paris’s site also includes a nifty assortment of links to other queer sites, as well as an extensive personal guide to queer film, not to mention a featured link to his favorite guide to New York City. (Yes, it’s the HX Web site. Did we mention that this boy has excellent taste as well?) A picture gallery with dozens of (G-rated) images of cute, Abercrombie & Fitch advertisement types is a bonus, with ‘more revealing’ shots promised for the future.”
